Chrome Ore is known for its high heat resistant properties owing to this property, chromite can be used as a refractory material in chromite plating and alloying for the production of corrosion resistant superalloys, nichrome and stainless steel. It is also used in pigmentation of porcelain tiles, glass, glazes and paint. Besides its good oxidation properties enable it to find an application in leather tanning. Often chromite is used as a gemstone.

The processing of chromite ore involves extraction of the valuable chromite mineral. The end product of the process is ferrochrome, an essential raw material in the manufacture of stainless steel. Around 90 percent of Chromite is consumed by refractories and foundaries whereas the remaining finds usage for chemical and metallurgical purposes.
